I filed my Income Tax Extension but when is my Tax Return Due?

Tax day concept. The USA tax due date marked on the calendar.

We get many questions each year around this time that go like this:  “OK Stu, I know you filed an extension for my business and personal returns, but when are the filings due?”

This is a BUSY time of year for our office as we plan for 2019 tax payments and filings  and also still prepare many tax returns for individuals, families, and small businesses who have not filed as of yet for 2018!  Yes, there are many people who have yet to file their 2018 tax returns and there are many reasons why one would extend the filing until as late as now.

The due date for filing Corporate form 1120, S-Corporate form 1120s, Partnership form 1065, and Trust form 1041 is Sunday September 15, so we get 1 extra day to file our returns on Monday September 16th.

The due date for extended 2018 personal returns is Tuesday October 15th so you still have a little time left to get organized.  The best advice though is to to get with your advisor as soon as possible and have them start the preparation now.  Please do not wait until it is too late or you end up rushing your filings.  There are no more extensions after October 15

One other important item:  Those who are self employed and or have estimated income tax payments due must pay them by September 15 as well and will get to the 16th of September this year to settle up for the third quarter estimated tax.
